This is a battle between Christ and Satan. And so Satan wants you out of the battle because that's gonna be a battle not fought. And so we need to understand that there is not a time in history where liberty has been gained without effort. That's not a passive thing. And there is a movement that seeks to get religious people, especially, out of the battle.
And they use so-called prophecy to make people think that there's nothing that can or should be done. So it's important for us to understand this idea of how Satan uses the end times to say, "There's nothing you can do about it." In fact, there was a talk I went to several years ago in Arizona where there was an author and he was giving a talk and he said, his premise was basically the idea that all you need to enter into Zion was your food storage.
And basically that the worst things get, that means that the Lord is returning. And so what we need to do is not fight against evil, not fight to promote good, but actually make it so either we just allow evil to continue or we promote evil. And so that way that will supposedly bring back the Savior faster was the idea, was the concept. And it's something that I hear a lot. It's one of the main reasons I hear from people as to why they're not involved in liberty because they think that there's nothing they can do about it because it's all set in stone.
And that evil is just going to continue until some imaginary line in the sand where the Lord is like, "You know what? You've killed one too many babies. Now I'm gonna come and kill everyone that's wicked." Is preposterous, is ridiculous. So we're gonna go over false predictions, historically what Christians understood about their duty, and then how this changed to where we see today. And then what is our job in preparing for the return of the Savior?
That'll help us. 'Cause people are always giving their opinion on the second coming. There was a televangelist, a pastor that had a TV program where he talked about the second coming and he predicted it first coming in 1994. And then we have here in 2011, where he said that the second coming was gonna be happening this year.
What is the authority that makes you think that you know we can't know that time?
I come with all kinds of information and proofs and the signs that indicate we're there.
And one more time, it's five times 10 times 17 times five times 10 times 17 equals—
722,500, which are the number of days inclusively from April 1, 33 AD and May 21, 2011, when the rapture occurs.
Okay, so when the rapture occurs. So these followers of Harold Camping were very much dedicated to, and they believed what he was saying.
And so they put up billboards where they said that he was coming in May 21st of 2011, even to go so far as to say the Bible guarantees it. Well, unless I missed it, I don't think the rapture happened. And you have Ezra's Eagle that also the original things that people said about it and they changed it. But there's lots of false predictions going throughout time, going back to one of the early Popes and religious philosophers, John Wesley, Jehovah's Witnesses, Rudolf Steiner, Harold Camping, Palmona scrolls, Chatham, Laurie Daybell.
And then now we've got next year, we have lots of false predictions. And so that this leads to really, it's basically a misunderstanding of our role. It's something that has been going on since even the days of the early apostles we see in 2 Thessalonians, where Paul had to talk to the saints and explain to them that no, there's some things that have to happen first. He says, "Don't be that ye be not soon shaken in mind or be troubled neither by spirit nor by word nor by letter as from us, as at the day of Christ is at hand.
Let no man deceive you by any means, for that day shall not come except there come a falling away first and that man of sin be revealed the son of perdition." So there had to be some things done first that in advance. So they understood that there was a process, right? And so now this brings people into these false dichotomies of, well, there's no need to pay any attention because it's all just nonsense anyways, it's all false.
And then you have the other extreme of Jesus is coming, there's nothing you can do about it. So just kind of just be a passenger on this ride called life and wait for Jesus to come save you because you're so worthy of being saved, doing nothing but sitting there waiting to be saved. And so of course, these are false dichotomies. Like we see in the political realm, but we need to understand our key role. This is our role.
We go to the parable in Luke chapter 19, where the Lord says to occupy until I come. Now the parable is about his vineyard and he tells his servants to take care. He's leaving and that they're to occupy the vineyard until he comes. Now, if you're the Lord's servants, the Lord of the vineyard servants, and you're told to occupy until he returns, are you gonna say, well, he's gonna return so there's nothing I can do about it.
You can see that the vineyard would become dilapidated and it would start to fall apart and it would not be a very beautiful thing. He would not be very proud of you when he returned. And so when we're told to occupy, we're told that that means we're supposed to take care of business. We're supposed to care for things. Is the world a more Christian place? Is the world more following the principles of the savior?
Are we building something better or are we letting it go into disrepair because of our lack of action? Of course, we're told to watch 'cause we don't know and that we can be ready. So what are we going to be watching for? 27 of the founding fathers were clergy. Their attitude was not, oh, King George is getting worse. Isn't this fantastic? That means the Lord's returning faster.
That was not their attitude at all 'cause they were supposed to occupy and make things better. They didn't know when he was going to come. And so their job was to make things as good as possible until he did return. And so that's why the English called the war for independence a Presbyterian rebellion because it was the religious people that were involved in this because they knew their duty to make things better because they didn't know when the Lord was going to return.
John Adams said that the general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. So it was because of their Christian belief that they worked to destroy tyranny and to build a free society. And then of course we have Thomas Jefferson who said rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God. None of these people believed that they just had to make things worse or just not do anything.
Their job to obey God was to establish a free society. But then something happens. So in the 1830s, you have Margaret MacDonald and you have John Nelson Darby who promote this new idea that's not found in the scriptures and that's not something that any Christian believed before this point. And that was in this thing called the rapture which is the idea that believers will be taken up to heaven while the wicked burn leading up to the return of the Savior and so that we don't have to worry about it because we're gonna be taken up and that the wicked were then gonna be burned.
So any effort to oppose evil is working against the events of the second coming as this mindset. And Satan wants you out of the battle. He says this. This is the Lord's gonna protect you. And besides, right, the world is so corrupt and heading towards destruction. It's at such a pace, you can't stop it, so why even try? The Moody Monthly published an article about what we should be doing, about what Christians should be doing about communism and its rise in Europe.
It says that it may be, however, that our Lord shall come before such problems of communism, enter upon their serious solution, and thus many, if not all of the readers will be spared the trouble of grappling with them. They're saying the Lord's gonna come. We don't have to even worry about it. And so lots of Christians just didn't engage, didn't stand up for what was right and promote correct principles because they felt that it didn't matter because the Lord was going to be returning anyways.
And so it wasn't something I had to worry about. In fact, that same exact year, you had pastors, over 430 ministers in New York City all signed a petition to get the President of the United States to recognize, officially recognize the Soviet Union so then actually taxpayer dollars could go and fund the Soviets until basically the 1990s to prop them up. And so we have these Christians that should have been fighting against evil and fighting to build a more godly society were actually not just passive saying, allow this to happen, but they were fighting to make things worse.
