The Tree of Liberty Society minutes for Monday, June 17, 2024, last Monday, the opening prayer was offered by Alan Arthur.
Ben said that a private group has invited them to speak several times over the next three months. He mentioned about a pride group event in Rexburg,
how to combat sodomy supremacy. Training for last Monday night was the reality behind the immigration battle.
There’s a false dichotomy on either side. There’s lots of immigration contradictions. When Herbert was governor,
he asked Trump to send more refugees to Utah. He said, we were a culture of refugees.
Ben commented that we were not refugees. We left the USA to move to empty, unowned land. Now, Cox is saying there’s no space in Utah for more refugees.
Denver is sending thousands of refugees to Utah. The government supports illegal immigration. Even if you can’t prove your residency, you can still get a driver’s license and you can even get a job as a police officer.
Alan Arthur commented that 90 % of the people are working in the dairy departments,
those that come from Mexico. Micah said when he had a shock, he had a wave of clients coming from California,
One of them was a black guy who came from New York to work for the sheriff’s office. They’re going out of their way to hire from so far away.
Ben said that cops were getting fired because their IQ was too high. William Evans in 1870 said just being a Mormon denied the ability to be citizens of the US,
but they can’t allow Mormons to immigrate to the US. The Immigration Act banned Mormon immigration and it was used to form a new society.
You mentioned about two cannot walk together except they be agreed. And cited several various prophets,
Ezra, Jeremiah, Matthew, and Corinthians, that when the he wants to change the culture. It floods the place with outsiders. Foundations are being laid to enslave the masses.
Don’t be fooled by the rhetoric and the false dichotomies. Build a fence around each community, each protecting themselves. Bobby commented about his friend in New York was in law enforcement.
He said that an agenda is in place and everyone is being lied to every day. Pamela Allen comment about the London invasion of Muslims.
It is used as a strategy to get things they want. Islam is a religion of peace when one agrees with them. And the closing chair was offered by Pamela Allen.

We have, it’ll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow, it’s election day, and I know I’ve always talked about I don’t vote, but it’ll be interesting to see the results of it.
There have been some things happening that have just developed just in the past couple of days, and so to see how that comes out with… Should we all go protest with signs and say don’t vote?
Don’t vote. And it’ll be just interesting to see. So I’m just kind of watching it with interest. But at least that’s in Utah.
Sorry for everybody else that’s not having their primaries tomorrow. – Oh, I’m an outsider. Which offices are up for election? – All federal and state level offices.
– That’s crazy dude, even in governor, huh? – Governor US, one of the US senators, two of the Congress and like a bunch of the legislature and you’re not going to write in Ron Paul.
I am not going to be writing in Ron Paul. For every office? No. No. I mean, that’s I’m not against Ron Paul. I just am against giving legitimacy to an election like legitimate.
So I’m trying to make sure there’s other things going on. I’ll have to just keep you all posted on. Nothing really to develop. There’s things going on behind the scenes that aren’t really ready to talk about yet. So we’ll just go ahead and get into training.
Actually, I guess I can give you an update on one of the things. So this last weekend, I spoke to that, one of the, it was the first meeting I spoke to the group and had a really, really good response.
and they’re really looking forward to the rest of the program. And hopefully we can get it to expand just like with the other ones that they meet regularly. And so I’m hoping that this turns into another thing where they use the book just like the other group.
They just ordered 30 copies of volume one and two of Invasion. And so maybe this will, same thing will happen with this group. So looking forward to that. Another thing that I can let you know about is we are in the process.
We’re really of adding some new sections to invasion and then putting it together into one volume. And so we’re in that editing process right now,
making sure that there’s nothing else that I want to make sure we add for that final one volume version of it. I don’t know, I should say final, but the volume, the single volume,
addition, first printing or whatever you call that, we’ll be coming out in the next couple of months. And so looking forward to that as well.
So it’ll be a lot of new data will be in that addition. But it’s one of those things, right? People that are longtime supporters and people that bought the I hate it,
you know, you’re like, am I going to buy a new edition just for this new section? Basically, in the member portal, the additional parts will be in the member portal that you can access because you’re members.
But it will be the physical copy, the updated physical copy will be the edition that you’ll want to have out there and distribute to people. So, just just as an FYI.
Pam, without any spoilers, you’ve been helping me with the editing. You wanna just share some real quick thoughts? Pam Clinch,
maybe not. – I couldn’t unmute. I’m sorry, yes. – You’re good. – Of Yeah, um talked about God be who I knew about but there were just the details of Why he did what he did and some of those things was really eye -opening to me today and just All of the pieces that we don’t know that come together in Utah history Which spills out into all the lies we’ve been told everywhere in like globally we just have not been
told the straight -out truth historically and I appreciate it was just a short little what seven pages or something that you let me go through and edit and I learned some new facts today and I learned about the United States you tell them that one.
I went and capitalized United States and Ben gave me a lesson on why the U not capitalized. So feel free, Ben, teach us. – I guess so,
like since she brought it up. So modern time, since basically since the 1860s, 1870s to today, whenever the word United States is used, the U is capitalized. But prior to that,
with the Founding Fathers especially, the U was always lowercase because they weren’t creating a new nation. It was a confederation of independent states that were uniting together for specific delegated purposes.
And so it was states that were united together as opposed to a nation called the United States. And so when you look at all of the early documents,
it was always a lowercase u. And It might seem petty, like, oh, who cares, but the capital U, lowercase U. Especially if people don’t know the history. I always kind of question,
is it worth people thinking that you’re stupid because you put a lowercase U? But I think the background’s important and helping people understand what we’re supposed to be versus what we are is important.
So any thoughts, Becky, you’ve gone over it. I just want to just give people some wet and people’s appetites. What do you have any thoughts you want to share with folks? Um,
no, just like Pam said, just learning more of who God be really is, what his background was, what he was involved with, so you can see and understand why he did what he did to Brigham Young and the Saints.

Okay. So we’re So you’re talking about logical fallacies, especially when we’re talking about government and just dealing with, you know,
associated topics like politics and whatnot. Logical fallacies are commonplace. They’re not, but not just in government. Logical fallacies are all over the place, and it’s important for us to understand them,
not only with dealing with tyrants, but Just in everyday life, I think that the principles that we’re going to cover tonight are going to be very helpful You know in every aspect of the things that we deal with on a on a day -to -day basis to not be fooled not to be suckered into a certain corner and So that’s what I want to kind of go over and so I want to answer the question of what is a logical fallacy,
what does that mean? So a logical fallacy Fallacies they fly in reasoning logical fallacies are like tricks or illusions of thought and they’re often very sneakily used by politicians and the media to fool people So just look at this.
We have television. It was invented in 1927 so this is an example of a logical fallacy So the lifespan of the average person in 1927 when TV was invented was around 60 -ish years old plus or minus depending if you’re a man or a woman and Then in 19 2004 the average lifespan is 78 years Therefore the invention of television has increased our lifespan around 18 years Right,
so What’s that the 60? The internet said So the national statistics says so that’s part of their that’s part of their programming.
So Micah says that the numbers aren’t even accurate, but either way, it’s a logical fallacy to say that obviously that causation or correlation does not equal causation just because those things happened at the same time doesn’t mean that it was,
you know, having televisions make us last longer or live longer. Yeah. It makes sense to me it took us the extra 18 years to get the remote control away from our wives So here’s another one is the straw man we’ve gone over the idea of a straw man But I wanted to give some some video examples some some really have it instilled in us.
So there’s this, if you were around, I think this is the early 1984, there was a Wendy’s commercial. That was the tagline, “Where’s the beef?” was really popular,
and it was one of those, you know, catchphrases that was all over the place for a year or so. And this is the commercial that spawned that. It certainly is a big bun.
It’s a very big bun. Big floppy bun. It’s a very big floppy bun. Why is the beef? Some hamburger places give you a lot less beef on a lot of bun.
Where’s the beef? At Wendy’s, we serve a hamburger we modestly call the single. And Wendy’s single has more beef than the walker on the big map. At Wendy’s, you get more beef and less bun. Hey, where’s the beef?
I don’t think there’s a good back there. You want something better. Your Wendy’s kind of people. I’m pretty sure that hamburger was from Sonic Actually, but the bun’s not that big but you can see like they didn’t they you know,
this is straw man of meaning They were accusing somebody of how everybody else has hamburgers that look like that and therefore our hamburgers You know don’t look like that But it’s a straw man because nobody’s hamburgers are exactly I mean are like that.
So an exaggeration and so except for Sonic even even but you know the the proportions are obviously you know it’s exaggerated and so that that way they can make themselves look like they’re better than everybody else and then we have here it’s it’s this is from Comedy Central so he’s obviously making a joke but I mean so this is a real politician being interviewed by a comedian but the comedian is using classic
strawman arguments that we’ll share. Let’s talk about your opponent, Sukele, for a sec. Besides the economy, reproductive rights, taxation, the environment, and education, where do you and Sukele differ?
Well, she’s voted for this war, which I would not have voted for. She voted for– So you’d rather see Saddam back in power? No, but I’d love to see a plan, a convincing land that would show us a way to victory in Iraq.
– Stay the course. – I’ve heard that and– – But it didn’t say can. – Well, I think that. – So talking about right with, so if you don’t support the war,
that means you want Saddam Hussein to be in power. That’s a classic straw man, where if you don’t like what’s going on, then you want the bad thing to happen. And so they’re putting you in a defensive position.
You have to defend yourself against an argument or an accusation that’s just you never even claimed, that never even happened, and they’re trying to misrepresent your position.
And so that way their position doesn’t need to be defended because you want the bad guy to win. And so this happens regularly, you have these examples, right?
So if you don’t vote for the Republican, you want the Democrat to win. So if you don’t like, you know, so -and -so, you don’t like George Bush, that means you want a John Kerry to win. And so it’s,
and you’ve got to defend yourself against that idea. You don’t support Israel? Well, obviously you want to gas Jews, you’re a Nazi. You don’t support the Patriot Act?
Well, clearly you support the terrorists. You don’t support civil rights legislation, obviously you want every black guy to be lynched from the neighborhood tree. And so obviously,
you know, I can be on the left column on all of those and not be on the right column. But in a straw man argument,
they want to pin you down to that so that way they can demonize you. And now any legitimate reasoned argument that you have on any of those things is going to be ignored because they don’t want to be a racist.
They don’t want to be in so -called anti -Semite. They don’t want to be some of it’s a favoring the terrorists. And so it is a way to be able to manipulate the situation. And then not only are they making you look like the bad guy,
they’re manipulating the masses to support their position without any logic or reasoning behind it, or the logic and reasoning is going to not support their position. Any questions thoughts comments that sounds just like a regular Sunday news show Look,
it’s that’s the same rationale that’s on all of the the news shows on Sunday Yeah, so but can you is it pretty clear like can you see how that the response on the right is not accurate.
It’s obviously it’s not accurate. And so that’s used to manipulate people. But yeah, anybody else? No,
okay. We’re going to the next one. We have the appeal to emotion. This one is very, very effective and is used in selling things, I mean,
products in addition to ideas. But the problem and fallacy occurs when a motion is used instead of a logical argument or to obscure the fact that no compelling rational reason exists for one one’s positions Every everyone except for sociopaths is affected by a motion and so appeals to a motion are very common and effective argument tactic,
but they’re ultimately flawed dishonest and tend to make one’s opponents justifiably emotional, okay? So here’s a Coke commercial that uses the appeal to emotion.
♪ Hey ♪ ♪ There’s an endless road to reach ♪ ♪ Hey,
Hey brother, know the world is sweet, the blood is thicker Oh,
the sky comes falling down for you There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t ♪ What if I’m far from home ♪ ♪ I’m calling if the sky comes falling down for you ♪ ♪ There’s nothing in this world that will do ♪ Taste of feeling.
[laughter] So this is obviously an appeal to emotion. It did not explain why the product was good, why the,
you know, it was – – You can’t say that, it’s straight bar. (laughing) – It’s the TM right there. – The quote. And so it was only about, right?
So you’re equating this product with my, you know, love of family, you know, brotherhood, and just the relationships of family members. And so you’re like,
yeah, you feel warm and fuzzy about the relationship. And so all of a sudden that means you want Coca -Cola. So the psychological pull is to have a desire to drink a Coke because it’s this pull towards emotion of nostalgia or of love of family.
And so there’s, you know, it’s completely emotion, zero data involved in that ad, and it’s very, very effective, obviously. So they have a new one that has two gay guys instead.
And so here’s a great one with the debate between Hillary and Bernie Sanders back was that 2018 or something, 2016?
2016 I think it was. I want people in this audience to think about what it must feel like to send off your first grader, little backpack maybe on his or her back.
And then the next thing you hear is that somebody has come to that school using an automatic weapon, an AR -15, and murdered those children. Now,
they are trying to prevent that from happening to any other family. And the best way to do that is to go right at the people who you talk about corporate greed,
the gun manufacturers, sell guns to make as much money. Senator Sanders. You know, I think it is a little bit…
It is a little bit… Look, what happened at Sandy Hook, what happened in Michigan, But it’s happened far too often all over this country is a terrible,
terrible tragedy. And we have got to do everything we can, as I mentioned a moment ago, to end these mass killings. But as I understand what your question is,
and you know, you’re not the only person whose heart was broken. I was there in the Senate when we learned about this killing. It is almost unspeakable to talk about to take walking into a room.
I mean, it is hard to even talk about. We all feel that way. But if, as I understand it, Anderson, it made me wrong, what you’re really talking about is people saying, let’s end gun manufacturing in America.
That’s the implication to that. We’re going to– And I don’t agree with that. We’re going to move on, Don Lim. All right. Thank you very much, Anderson. Hey, you look at the two responses as saying as Bernie Sanders is,
he was reasoned and he actually had some logic and some facts. And there was zero response from the audience. Whereas when Hillary was just using emotion to say,
if you know, if you don’t want to stop gun manufacturing in the United States, that means you want little kids to die. It’s that reason music video of you just want people to die and and so just using emotion and she got a thunderous applause while the insane the other insane person that actually used some reasoning it was nothing just moving on to the next topic we we’ve used up the emotion and then this is a
pretty famous political ad that uses a similar, you know, an appeal to emotion. 6,
9, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3,
2, 1, 0. The Stinks. in which all of God’s children can live.
We must either love each other or we must die.” “Vote for President Johnson on November 3rd. The states are too high for you to stay home.” You’ve never seen that,
Micah? I have not seen that one. That was like the most famous political ad of all time. They teach teaches some political science classes and it’s just everywhere. – That is really bizarre. – It was the appeal to emotion,
right? It’s like, you vote for Johnson. If you vote for Barry Goldwater, your little girl is gonna die an atomic blast. And– – I didn’t even get there. It was just, the editing was so crazy.
I didn’t even get that out of it. – That was its purpose. – I could see that that would be the purpose. That had not – That occurred to me, what’s the matter? – In the political, the zeitgeist of the time, it was probably more obvious than it would have been today.
– Yeah, probably, ’cause I’m just, guess I’m used to fancier -engineering. (laughing) – It’s from 1963, or whatever, that was ’67. – And then zoom into her eyeball. – Can I make three observations?
– Please do. – First is that one we just watched is like today’s sketch comedy. – Oh, totally. – That was pretty funny. Second, it was insane to hear Bernie actually say something reasonable.
Third, you totally didn’t bring up Bonneville Communications’ Heart Cell. That’s a great one to get into. I’ll do that in the future, for sure. I was just kidding,
but yeah, it’s another example. Trademark. Yeah, trademark. Don’t forget trademark. Heart Cell is literally trademarked. Oh, so you’re going to send me a season to sister, absolutely.
That’s me. Yeah. Go ahead. Sorry, go ahead. Yeah, we are. No, that’s it,
bro. I thought you said you had a couple of different point. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So and they were, you know, we have to love each other, right? If we the equivalent of like we to make the United States a Soviet satellite,
otherwise we have nuclear war. And so, and that worked. I mean, well, it was part of what worked for the entire campaign against, between Barry Goldwater and,
what was his face? Lyndon Johnson. And then here’s an example of another fear, right? The first,
The first one was “Appeal to Emotion” and the idea of your nostalgia, family, love, and now we’re getting into all the fear stuff of how they use fear to get you to buy something.
– What you don’t know about your garage door, we’ll kill you. – It’s official, you can’t eat wheat bread. – Someone’s been stealing packages. – They call ’em porch pyres. They call them “Portspires.” All I’m saying is that in five years,
robots will be able to do your job, your job, your credit. Are you listening? Always, Denise. In a world full of fear. Simply safe. On.
Home is the place you should simply feel safe. So, be afraid of everything and buy our product. So, at least you’re okay in your house, you know, with our,
they literally offer cameras to put in your house, right, right. Everything that they just warned about, they said to be afraid of is what they’re doing. And then we have this classic,
this is, and this is obviously not real. This is satire. But it’s a culmination of everything that I’ve just shown you with the emotion issue. And I think I’ve showed it before, but I think it’s an important reminder.

Yes, Mrs. Griffin, how do you feel about those computer websites that put a blue square on the home of a sex offender? Well, The safety of our children is a very important part of my plan for Kohog.
I have a 12 -point program for the security. I’m sorry, your time is up. No, no, no, no. I’m not impressed. I’m not impressed.
Not yet. Mayor West, if re -elected, would you increase the frequency of garbage pickup? Well, citizen, that’s an excellent question, and I thank you for it. I think it’s great. We live in a town Or you can ask questions because without questions,
we just have answers and an answer without a question is a statement. Oh I like him. He looks me in the eye I’d like to have a beer with him.
I’m voting for him Lois undecided voters are the biggest idiots on the planet We’re giving short,
simple answers. Sir, your question, please. Mrs. Griffin, what do you plan to do about crime in our city? A lot. Because that’s what Jesus wants.
9 /11 was bad. I agree with that. I can’t believe how easy this is. Mrs. Griffin, what are your plans for cleaning up our environment?
9 /11. Mrs. Griffin, what about our traffic problem? 9 /11.
So, it reminded me of the whole interchange between Hillary and Bernie Sanders, frankly, it gets that bad.
You can see that just even on the local level, where the worst guy is usually the nice one that is making eye contact and loving all of the people,
all the constituents and everybody at the debate or the town hall meeting. And the guy that understands his stuff is just kind of like, “Hey, let’s talk about the data.” And and everybody just like oh he’s a jerk and they only you know want to listen to the guy that’s blown wind up their skirt basically and so they are they’re using appeals to emotion and there’s another way that emotion was used here so this is one
of the most the most common responses I got to my video on on skull and bones people saying that makes me feel dark or this gives me bad And so there are emotions were used to be able to dismiss data as opposed to,
you know, as opposed to just looking at the data and not worrying about the emotions. And so too often emotions are used to get us to reject sound data or to just not care about anything,
the data at all. And just to get you to go along with their program. But there’s no consideration for the data or the facts. They just want you to succumb to emotion. Any thoughts before we go on to the next topic with an appeal of authority?
– You’re gonna cover when Jeb Bush asked the crowd to clap for him? – No, there’s too much. Too many examples. – Okay, I wanna– – That one’s too sad. – Go ahead.
– That one’s too sad. Don’t bring that one up. – Jeb Bush is too sad. – That was So let’s go to the appeal to authority. It says, you know, you said that because an authority thinks something,
it must therefore be true, right? So this is generally true, but I want to kind of give a warning, a caveat behind it.
Okay. So we have in the scriptures ever, we don’t want to be ever learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. And so there is eternal truths, right? We have the scriptures,
we have the word of the Lord, and there are things that are true, and it is okay to say, “This is true because God said so.” And so I think that the appeal to authority is something that we just need to be careful of,
that we’re Who out, you know, how else do I know something because besides because God said so because when when it’s simply about ideas Satan has been around much longer than than I you know He’s got this game a lot longer than we have and so he’s a lot had a lot of time to develop Skills to be able to kind of bring up information that you might not be um uh combat without looking to uh correct principles laid
out in the scriptures if that makes sense. And so just because someone says it right and that I’m going to bring up some examples where it’s accurate um we want to make sure that we’re not just dismissing the ultimate authority when we understand that an appeal to authority is most in a fallacy.
Thoughts or questions before we kind of get into details and examples of this? Okay. So here’s an appeal to authority,
right? Of course, the scriptures are the authority, but then we have people putting out there where the Bible guarantees it. So even if somebody is saying that God said X,
we have to know that God said it, right? Because they’re saying that the rapture that the Savior was going to return on May 21st, 2011. And not only did they say that, you know, that it was their belief,
they said that you can depend on it because the Bible said so. So this is a false appeal to authority because, A, the Bible doesn’t say it, doesn’t guarantee it, doesn’t do either one of those things.
And in fact, we know as, you as 13 years have passed since then that it didn’t happen. And so this is an example of a false appeal to authority.
Another example of a false appeal to authority, we have this Facebook post by Russell Nelson. He says, “We are thankful for the countless doctors, scientists, researchers,
manufacturers, government leaders and others who have performed the grueling work required to make the vaccine available. We have prayed often for this literal godsend.
Receiving the vaccine today was part of our personal efforts to be good global citizens. So using the appeal to authority of doctors and scientists and researchers and government leaders and manufacturers and even going so far as to commit blasphemy and saying that it was literally from God and so using that appeal to authority to be able to shut down debate and so that you know that there’s because because the authority
said so there’s the discussion is over we don’t have to bring up any more data any more you know logic has to go out the window because the Bible guarantees it because it literally came from God And so these are exempt go ahead Well,
I just wanted to say that when you read in scriptures Where God talks about how to heal people It’s not anything close to what the LDS church did Right,
so you have to know what the actual scriptures say to be able to know if that’s accurate enough So here so and now here’s a video clip that gets kind of gives it a more another so on November 4th get out and vote Say don’t vote.
Don’t vote. You want me to say don’t vote. I’m sorry. What am I supposed to say? Don’t vote That doesn’t make any sense. You want people to vote, right? Just say don’t vote. It’s going somewhere. Oh,
get it, man. Listen, Scarlett, just say don’t vote. Don’t vote? On November 4th, get out and don’t vote. Because it’s part of the big picture. Tommy Cruise say don’t vote?
On November 4th. Now make sure you go out and vote. God! No, no, no, no, no. It’s a November 4th don’t vote. Don’t vote. Don’t vote. Now what do you mean don’t vote?
Well, it’s like the last one they did it which was great hundreds of thousands of people signed up to register to vote so it’s kind of like the concept do not vote shy a little more a little more sarcastic more sarcastic what if people don’t understand that it’s being sarcastic oh sarcastic okay you can do sarcasm yeah i can do sarcasm i can do anything i wasn’t a – Don’t vote.
– Harrison, trust me. – Don’t vote. – Don’t vote. – Like that? – Don’t vote. – Like that? I don’t get it. – It doesn’t make any fucking sense. – Do not vote. – Good, good. Let’s go back to the top. The whole concept– – Not!
– One vote doesn’t count. Just imagine that. What does that mean? – Okay, one vote doesn’t count. One vote doesn’t count. – No, one vote doesn’t count. – One vote? What is that gonna do? – It don’t matter. – It’s just one vote. – You’re one tiny little itty bitty person in this entire country.
– And you’re just this one. – You You know what? I can’t do it. It’s not true. I don’t believe it. 537 people decided the 2000 election.
You want me to tell people that one vote doesn’t count? 537? That’s it. There’s more Baldwin brothers than that. The concept worked the last time this was on YouTube. Work for who?
So, yeah, right? It’s a mixture of the emotional one, as well as the appeal to the authority. We have these Hollywood actors and singers saying, you know, you, of course, your vote matters and trying to use reverse psychology to say that it’s important.
So you have these satanists, these little satanists trying to get you to vote. And so they’re using the appeal to the authority to, you know, even if they’re not an authority, they are, it’s an appeal to someone that is respected.
And so because the masses idolize these people as a modern -day idol, they were used in this commercial to get hundreds of thousands of people to register to vote,
which I think is pretty relevant to our greater points that have been made in the past of if these Satanists want you to vote, there might be something to that.
And so we have and then here’s a one from the fifties of actually addressing the issue of the appeal to authority. These children are being taught to accept uncritically whatever they’re told.
Questions are not encouraged. How can you ask such a question? Have you got a textbook? Yes ma ‘am. That they say here that our law courts are always just?
Yes, ma ‘am. Then how dare you question the fact? Sit down. And so we aren’t surprised, twin. But it must be true.
I saw it in this book right here. The book said so or today’s exactly right. The Internet said so. And so it’s just that appeal to authority that we don’t need to think anymore because someone in authority or someone that’s looked up to said so.
Any thoughts, examples that people, and you’d like to, any things that thoughts have come up to your mind as you’ve gone through this section? You know?
Okay. So the next one is the ad hominem. So an ad hominem is you’re attacking your opponent’s character or personal traits in an attempt to undermine their argument.
An ad hominem attack can take the form of overtly attacking somebody or more subtly casting doubt on their character or personal attributes as a way to discredit their argument. The result of an ad hominem attack can be to mind someone’s case without actually having to engage with it.
So you don’t have to you attack the person, their their character, their beliefs, whatever it is, then you don’t have to actually address the points that they’re making.
And so this is a video where both Donald Trump and Joe Biden engaged in an ad attack.
You believe from moment what he’s telling you, in light of all the lies he’s told you about the whole issue relating to COVID.
He still hasn’t even acknowledged that he knew this was happening, knew how dangerous it was going to be back in February, and he didn’t even tell you. He’s on record as saying it.
He panicked or he just looked at the stock market one of the two because guess what a lot of people died And a lot more gonna die unless he gets a lot smarter a lot Did you use the word smart?
So you said you want to Delaware State, but you forgot the name of your college You didn’t go to Delaware State you graduated Either the lowest or almost the lowest in your class don’t ever use the word smart with me.
Don’t ever use that word. Oh, give me a because you know what? There’s nothing smart about you, Joe. 47 years, you’ve done this to better you would have had. Let me just tell you something, Joe. So,
right? Don’t don’t address the issue. Just focus on if he’s smart or not. And so, you know, these these types of ad helmet attacks are very common and they get us distracted.
And so that we’re not actually focused on the principles involved. And that’s the key to basically every logical fallacy is to make sure that you’re not focused on the facts,
but that you’re focused on some sort of emotion. And so you have, right, they’re a Democrat. That’s why I don’t need to listen to them. They’re of a different religion. They’re a different brand of my religion.
They don’t agree with me on x so they’re wrong on y and so they they focus on that you can’t be telling the truth because you believe this about something else and you know you can’t be I’ve heard that so many times where you can’t you know if you what’s his name I play the video talking about Ron Paul and it’s the John Stewart The Daily Show people will say you know you can’t trust John Stewart because he’s a
Democrat he’s a liberal and it’s like well The data that he showed was that’s what matters. The truth wherever it comes, that’s what matters. Now, do you take into account that there might be a bias?
I’m sure, but that doesn’t negate the data. And so you want to be able to ignore biases. There are so many different books that I’ve read that I’ve gotten vital data from because I didn’t care that the person writing it was of a different political or religious mindset than me.
And, you know, in fact, I would say that some of the best teachings, quotes that I’ve gotten from my religion is actually from some anti Mormon sources.
And so it’s, it’s something because they’re trying to do a gotcha. And so but then you can verify the data. And so Am I going to say that? Am I going to trust the conclusions of somebody that might differ the meaning?
You know, I’m going to look at the data and judge the conclusions for myself. But when we don’t look at the data and we ignore, you know, and we stick to our conclusions that we made before the data was presented,
simply because the person was different than us, we are going to lose out on a lot of information. We’re going to lose out on actually coming to the truth on a lot of things. And so it’s important that we are aware of the different tactics,
right? The concept is they ignore the data because I don’t like the data and then they have to use something about the person that’s giving the data as an excuse to ignore the data, right?
And so we look at the savior and Some would say that he actually engaged in that hominem, so I want to address that as well. Matthew 23, verse 15,
the Lord said, “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, “for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, “and when he is made, you make him twofold more,
“the child of hell than yourselves.” And so he’s calling the Pharisees children of hell and Hippocrates and then in 27 he says well into you scribes and Pharisees Hippocrates were you a like your like unto white did supple curves which indeed appear beautiful outward?
But are within full of dead men’s bones and are and of all uncleanliness and all cleanness So he’s like you guys are just dead men bones. You guys are white in sepulchres people With out of context Would say that this was just name -calling the Lord was just calling it out Then we go to John 8 verse 44 the Lord says ye are of your father the devil and the lust of your father ye will do Verse 47 he says he that
is of God here with God’s words ye therefore hear them not because you are not of God and So some people would say these these are forms of name calling.
Now, before I kind of, I get to that part, what would you guys think? What do you guys think? Why isn’t this in it havin’ ’em? Or was the Lord engaging in a fallacy?
What do you guys think? Thoughts on? – Can I share a thought? – Please do. – Usually when somebody’s engaging in ad hominem, they don’t even address their opponent’s position,
but Jesus is always teaching and addressing the issues, you know what I mean? Yeah, so it’s not it’s not just that hominem He’s and and his insults are true as well True insults and he actually addresses the issue at hand,
right, okay Good. Thank you anybody else. I think the big difference with the Savior is the guys that are being attacked know what He’s saying is true,
and anyone with rational thinking can look at it and say, “Yeah, He’s describing you right to the point, you are children of the devil.” I think it’s because there’s so its truth behind it and the people that he’s the one after know it and so it makes it a little different.
I mean if Bernie would attack Hillary as being a wacko woman but we’d all known it so I decided with him.
Right. Anybody else there’s there’s nothing else to do when somebody Refuses to apply logic and reason to their arguments Because that’s really what it comes down to it’s like can’t argue with a child Because they just keep coming up with stuff that doesn’t matter right so just like you’re a child your child of the devil But There’s nothing else for us to talk about here the Pharisees were using though the argument the
the logical fallacies And so the Lord was just and that’s really what it comes down to is Right It wasn’t an ad hominem. It was a necessary labeling is what was going on,
right? If I’m if I’m going to be in a debate with the governor of Utah If I’m gonna be in a discussion with the head of the council on formulations. There’s no reason to engage beyond and explain it,
you know, in saying that they’re Satanists. And there is no reason to engage with that person because of who they are. There is no truth that is going to come out of their mouth. And so to engage with them at any point is simply to invite deception to the masses.
And so individuals that are evil, that are going that are there to deceive and to do wrong, there’s only one way to address it. And so there are times where you just like, this guy’s a Satanist because evil,
if you want me to kind of document that for you, I’d be glad to do so. But there’s no reason to listen to him because everything is going to do to make you like him is there to deceive you and to do evil.
And so it’s not labeling. So we have to understand how we are being manipulated to avoid future manipulation and to remain effective. And so this is, this is what the things that we engage with,
not only just like I mentioned at the very beginning, not just with people in government, but you look at the Coke commercials, you look at car commercials, they are engaged in these ad hominems, not at Adam’s,
sorry, these logical fallacies on a regular basis to get us to be sold on products, to be sold on ideas. engaged in this process.
That’s something we need to ask ourselves. And so it’s, if we don’t understand how we’re being manipulated, we’re going to be stunted off into things that are ineffective, and we’re going to be sucked in,
right? Like a lot of people were in 2000, 2001 to 2012 basically is how long the Patriot Act support amongst conservatives would have lasted, where for that many years,
if you were against the Patriot Act, you were in favor of the terrorists. Whereas, you know, today, those same people, your your Mark Levennes,
your Sean Hannity’s, who were completely ballistic about anybody that opposed the Patriot Act, today will say that they were against it or that they are against it. And so now that it’s popular because enough people used to a believe and fall for the,
the deception, but they were willing to stand up against the emotional responses that were being used, the ad hominems, the straw men, all the different methods.
Samantha or Dan got Sam and Dan got your hand raised. Yeah, I, I apologize for not being able to hear the beginning of your presentation.
I really love this topic and understanding logical fallacies and appeals to emotion and irrelevant arguments and all that.
It was a huge help to me to understand the conspiracy and propaganda and how they really manipulate me and my whole life and all of So,
um, really, really love this topic, but I wanted to, there’s something that I’ve been thinking about for a while, um, and that it goes with the appeal to authority,
actually. Um, I don’t think that it’s always wrong, and if you said this, I apologize, always wrong to appeal to authority. For example, Christ is the ultimate authority.
the Lord, our Father in Heaven. He is the ultimate authority. If there’s anyone we should appeal to in every instance, I would say that is always 100 % appropriate. So whatever Christ says,
yep, that’s the truth. That’s it. And maybe we need to do some work to understand why. He has evidence for what he’s saying, but he’s a perfect being.
So There’s nothing incorrect in what they teach. So keeping that in mind, truth is truth.
And we will appeal to scripture and revelation and our Lord and our savior to witness what is true and to sometimes call people out.
And I think it’s important that we have correct appeals and correct logic and correct knowledge, right? Because that’s where all truth emanates is from our Father in heaven.
So that’s just one thing that I think kind of fall short in the fallacies. I think they’re amazing and 99 % of the time get you where you need to go, but sometimes It’s too logic -based and not,
you know, spirit -based, spiritually -based. – Yeah, no, I appreciate you bringing it. So yes, I did. So here’s the, there’s a couple of slides where I talked about it,
where we don’t wanna be ever learning and never coming to a knowledge, and that we should appeal to the scriptures or what we should appeal to you, even if people do it incorrectly at times. So yes,
we did cover it, but I’m so glad you brought it up again. I think it’s good to reiterate that part of it. Yeah, God is the ultimate authority. We should always appeal and use his words and his revelations.
Sure, we fall short in not understanding them and misquoting them and cherry picking what actually it means. But I think with a lot of times it’s really hard to argue with Scripture,
especially when it’s really plain and clear. And I think especially when we’re talking to other people who profess to love scripture and God, that’s a really,
really good way to appeal to them is through that knowledge and that uncommon understanding. And because it kind of removes the emotion and it doesn’t make it personal,
it’s like, God said this to all of us, you know, shouldn’t we be doing that? So that kind of thing. Exactly. Thank I, you probably persuaded me not to participate in the elections,
but I still feel like, and I didn’t register this time, but I still feel like we’ve got to go to the voting booth.
I don’t trust them not to fill in a name if I leave it blank, but we’ve got to go and and Right none none of the above none available and no one No one of moral character running or something written on the on the ballot to show that we’re We’re not interested in Now the club and who they pick Yeah So yeah,
I’ve just you know, I’m not here to tell you what to do and I’ll just lay out my best arguments for why I’m Stating the position that I am and let everyone else to let you all decide what you want to do with that info.
So Yeah Well, we are we are over the the time. So let’s go ahead and sign off and get to the open forum. Let’s see,
