What does the 12th article of faith say?

We believe in being subject to kings presidents rulers magistrates and you know and magistrates in obeying honoring and Sustaining the law.

That “and” is not in the article of faith, though.

The 12th article of faith has no coordinating conjunction.

This means that there is only one complete sentence, not two clauses.

One sentence, not two clauses.

By adding a coordinating conjunction, We change the meaning of the 12th Article of Faith to have two separate clauses.

This is what we read it as, having two clauses that we believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, and that we believe in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

That is not what the 12th Article of Faith says.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

Without the in conjunction, the belief of being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates is qualified like saying only when they honor and sustain and obey the law, the Constitution of the United States.

When they obey the Constitution, sure, they’re not going to have you do anything that violates God’s law, but when they don’t obey the law of land, the constitution, then natural law, then we have no obligation to obey them because they’re availing the law.

Our belief in being a subject to these leaders only goes so far as they honor, obey and sustain the law.

Without the coordinating conjunction, the qualifying, obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law is applied to the leaders, not to the people.

Just like the constitution itself, people have this misnomer that it rules the people.

It is a government.

It is a document that rules the government.

We have totally been misled about what the 12th article of faith means.

So let me just show you some examples.

If you don’t believe this, right, that means you think that these men are wrong when they said these things.

In the First Presidency message in 1886, when he said, “God has disappeared to governments,” he tells the church to befriend the constitutional law of the land.

If it is not constitutional, it comes of evil, D&C 98.

It must support the principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, if not, it comes of evil.

Whatever is contrary to the freedom guaranteed by the Constitution, which includes not mere belief, but the free exercise of religion, he does not command his people to obey, but says they shall do his will.

If the government is telling you to disobey God, Our obligation is to obey God and disobey the government.

If we don’t believe that, then we think that Donovan was wrong for not following the order, right? Alexander Donovan, he was given an order to kill the Prophet Joseph and other leaders of the church in the 1830s, and he said this, “If it’s cold -blooded murder, I will not obey your order, and if you execute these men, I will hold you responsible before an earthly tribunal.

Today we see cops saying, whether what I’m being told or not is constitutional or not, that’s not my job.

That’s for the courts to decide.

He’s saying no.

And today we had that same moral obligation just to know for ourselves.

‘Cause if we believe that we just do what the government says, then we believe that Alexander Donovan should have killed Joseph.

And that is a preposterous position, an unreasonable position to be in.

We have an obligation before God to understand natural law so that we know what is being violated and we will not go along with it, that we will obey God and not a satanic government.
