On August 2nd, 2026 — the day most signers actually put pen to the Declaration of Independence — we gathered virtually to reflect on the 250th anniversary of America’s founding document. This special devotional from the Tree of Liberty Society walks through a full reading of the Declaration, explores the biblical and natural law foundations behind “the laws of nature and of nature’s God,” and features a dramatic reading of Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech, complete with John Roane’s eyewitness account of the moment. Along the way we sing Revolutionary War-era hymns including “Chester” and “The Liberty Song,” open and close in prayer, and reflect on what our founders sacrificed — their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor — to secure liberties we often take for granted today. Tree of Liberty Society is an educational group dedicated to studying founding-era principles — natural law, biblical civics, and constitutional self-government — using primary source documents.
